Every June, the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) brings together the top insiders within the fashion industry to celebrate American design and honor the leading talents with the annual CFDA Awards. This year marks the award’s 37th year and to add a new twist to the iconic ceremony, the CFDA introduced the first ever Influencer Award.
While we congratulate this year’s CFDA Award winners for their contribution to the industry, our team was curious to see the impact and influence of each award winner, nominee, and brand. As such, our data team tracked both online and social media from the day of through to the day after, and we’re sharing some of the top highlights for the 2018 CFDA Awards celebration along with a detailed infographic below.
1. The Power of Gigi Hadid at the 2018 CFDA Awards
With a total of over 2 million interactions, Gigi Hadid scores the top three spots for Instagram posts according to engagement. Sporting a bright and multicolored Versace jumpsuit, Gigi Hadid posted four Instagram photos in total mentioning the CFDA Awards and with her incredible reach; three of the four became the top Instagram posts.
2. The Brands that Everyone Talked About at CFDA Awards 2018
With Gigi Hadid’s top three posts attracting over 2 million engagements and Donatella Versace being awarded the International Award, it’s no surprise that Versace was the most talked about brand according to Media Impact Value™ (MIV®). The luxury house earned $1.4 million in MIV. Next up was the title partner, Swarovski, who earned $1.3 million in MIV, followed by Calvin Klein, which is where Womenswear Designer of the Year, Raf Simons, currently serves as Chief Creative Officer. The brand earned $1.2 million in MIV.
3. The Top Media Sources that Covered the CFDA Awards 2018
While CFDA themselves live-streamed the red carpet on Facebook and many fashion insiders managed to share their evening moments all over social media, lifestyle publication, PopSugar, placed first for the top media source according to media impact value, reaching over $753K in MIV. Following PopSugar are Vogue and Buzzfeed, earning $634K in MIV and $499K in MIV, respectively.
At Launchmetrics, we’re so grateful to continuously be part of the CFDA Awards each year through our Event Management system.
